This picture was on the front of the BBC Good Food magazine a long time ago and it made me want to get my baking dishes out straightaway. I made it for Micheala's 40th birthday and decided to make it again today because a crowd of us are getting together. My icing (500g mascarpone, tant pis for the calories) isn't quite as coffee coloured even though I used strong espresso coffee and I used grated chocolate instead of cocoa on top. The recipe is here for anyone who is tempted to make this yummy desert. Coffee cake was the one thing I craved when I was pregnant with Greg, our oven in the rented house we were in wasn't working so I had to wait 1 month to satisfy the craving because it's not easy to buy coffee cake in France!
